Check the cause
Check for related CAN codes (such as T227 or D149) to rule out broader network-wide wiring problems.
Inspect the wiring harness routing from the armrest gear shift lever to the transmission controller for pinched wires, chafing, or loose connector pins.
Test the power supply to ensure the transmission module and armrest are receiving adequate voltage (code T230 indicates low supply voltage).
Test the armrest shift switch for physical damage or internal shorting.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on the CAN bus or transmission electronics.
Clean Connections
Disconnect the harness at the armrest gear shift switch and the transmission ECU. Use electrical contact cleaner to remove any dirt or corrosion, and ensure the pins are seated tightly.
Repair Wiring
If any breaks or shorts are found in the CAN bus wiring between the armrest and the TRANS module, splice and repair the wires using appropriate heat-shrink connectors.
Replace the Switch
If the wiring is intact and the CAN bus is otherwise healthy, the internal components of the armrest gear shift switch have likely failed. Remove the armrest trim, unbolt the defective switch, and install the replacement part.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the T220 fault code. Test the PowerShuttle forward/reverse and gear shift functions to confirm the repair.
