Massey Ferguson T221 – TRANS: Steering Column Forward/Reverse Drive Lever Issue

The transmission controller is detecting an invalid signal, missing signal, or electrical fault from the power shuttle lever (the switch used to change the tractor's direction between forward, neutral, and reverse) located to the left of the steering wheel.

   Inspect the physical condition of the forward/reverse lever on the left side of the steering column for physical breakage or excessive play.

   Access the steering column wiring and inspect the plug for loose pins, disconnected wires, or corrosion.

   Verify the voltage supply to the switch.

   Test the switch's output continuity in the Forward, Neutral, and Reverse positions to determine if the switch has failed internally.

   Power down and disconnect battery

   Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Remove steering column shrouds

   Remove the plastic shrouds/cowling surrounding the steering column to expose the base of the shuttle lever.

   Disconnect electrical cable

   Locate the electrical cable and plug extending from the forward/reverse switch and disconnect it from the main wiring harness.

   Remove mounting screws

   Remove the mounting screws fixing the switch assembly to the steering column.

   Remove faulty lever

   Remove the faulty lever.

   Mount new lever

   Mount the new forward/reverse lever into position and secure it with the fixing screws.

   Reconnect electrical plug

   Reconnect the electrical plug.

   Reinstall shrouds

   Reinstall the steering column shrouds.

   Reconnect battery and test

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the forward and reverse engagement to ensure the TRANS module receives the correct signals and the T221 code clears.
