Massey Ferguson T222 – Transmission Module (TRANS / TRANS2) / Autotronic 5: Transmission Temperature Signal Out Of Range

Triggers when the transmission temperature sensor detects a value that is outside of its programmed operating parameters (> 150 °C or < -24 °C). This indicates either a severe overheating/freezing condition or an electrical fault (short circuit or open circuit) with the sensor or its wiring.

   Check Transmission Fluid: Verify the transmission oil level and check the oil quality for severe degradation or pollution.

   Inspect Radiators/Coolers: Check the transmission coolers and radiators for blockages caused by dirt or debris.

   Wiring and Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission temperature sensor (located at the bottom of the transmission casing) for chafed wires, disconnected unions, or a short circuit to the earth/ground.

   Clean the Cooling System

   If the radiators are blocked, clean the fins thoroughly with compressed air or water.

   Correct Fluid Levels

   Top off the transmission fluid with approved Massey Ferguson transmission oil if the level is low. If the oil is heavily polluted, drain and replace the transmission oil and filter.

   Test the Sensor

   Clear the fault codes. If code T222 immediately returns upon key-on (when the tractor is cold), the issue is electrical.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring harness tests fine for continuity and has no shorts, the transmission temperature sensor itself has failed internally. Locate the sensor at the bottom of the transmission casing, disconnect the harness, unthread the old sensor, and install the replacement.

   Recalibrate

   After replacing transmission sensors or resolving fluid issues, perform a transmission calibration procedure (via the PowerShuttle lever and differential lock switch sequence) to ensure smooth shifting.
