T239

Massey Ferguson T239 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS or TRANS2): Issue With Powershift P Solenoid Supply Voltage

Issue description

The diagnostic system has detected that the current being drawn by the X478 - Powershift module solenoid valve is too high. This typically indicates a short circuit in the wiring harness or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause

  1. Trace the wiring harness leading to the X478 Powershift module solenoid valve for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or shorts to ground/power.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the X478 solenoid and measure resistance across the pins (zero or near-zero ohms indicates an internal short).

  3. Inspect the pins inside the connector for corrosion, moisture, or melting caused by excessive current draw.

  4. Verify the transmission oil level and quality, as low or contaminated fluid can cause secondary transmission module faults.

Repair steps

  1. Safely park the tractor on level ground, turn off the engine, and relieve any hydraulic pressure.

  2. Locate the transmission valve block and identify the X478 Powershift module solenoid valve.

  3. Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty solenoid.

  4. Clean the area around the valve block to prevent dirt from entering the transmission.

  5. Remove the retaining nut or bolts securing the solenoid to the valve block and carefully pull the solenoid out.

  6. Inspect the mounting port and ensure no old O-rings or debris are left behind.

  7. Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission fluid and install it into the valve block.

  8. Secure the retaining hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.

  9. Top up the transmission fluid if any was lost during the procedure.

  10. Clear the T239 fault code using a diagnostic tool.

  11. Perform a Dyna-4 / Dyna-6 Transmission Calibration procedure.

Crucial Final Step: This ensures the transmission controller adapts to the new solenoid's electrical and mechanical characteristics.
