T241

Massey Ferguson T241 – TRANS or TRANS2: Issue With Powershift P Solenoid Supply Voltage

Issue description

Indicates an open circuit on the "P" solenoid circuit. The system logs this code when the measured current for the X478 Powershift module solenoid valve drops below 13 mA in relation to the required value.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the transmission controller (TRANS module) and the X478 Powershift P solenoid valve for chafed wires, broken lines, or disconnected plugs

  2. Check the electrical connector at the X478 solenoid for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins

  3. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the X478 solenoid coil and verify the supply voltage from the transmission controller (fault triggers if current is < 13 mA)

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the transmission valve block and identify the X478 Powershift module solenoid valve (the "P" solenoid).

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or corroded connector, repair the wiring harness or replace the connector pigtail.

  3. Replace the Solenoid

If the wiring is intact and the controller is sending the correct voltage, the solenoid coil has failed internally (open circuit). Clean the area around the transmission valve block, disconnect the electrical connector, unbolt/unscrew the faulty solenoid valve, install the new replacement solenoid valve and torque to OEM specifications, and reconnect the electrical harness.

  4. Clear Codes and Test

Turn on the tractor, clear the stored T241 fault code from the TRANS module, and test the powershift transmission through its ranges to ensure the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Powershift Module Solenoid Valve (Component ID: X478)

Ensure you specify whether your tractor has a Dyna-4 or Dyna-6 transmission, as the valve block configurations may vary slightly between the 5000 and 7000 series.
