Massey Ferguson T244 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS or TRANS2): Issue With Powershift L Solenoid Supply Voltage
Issue description
The current measured on the circuit for the Powershift module solenoid valve "L" (designated as component X479) is greater than the maximum possible allowed value. This typically indicates a short circuit in the wiring harness, a short to ground, or an internally shorted solenoid coil that is drawing excessive electrical current.

Check the cause
Locate the Powershift valve block on the transmission and identify solenoid "L" (X479). Inspect the wiring harness leading to the solenoid for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground or a short to voltage.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the X479 solenoid. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins. If the resistance is near zero (or significantly lower than the specification for the other powershift solenoids on the block), the coil is internally shorted and must be replaced.
Check the continuity of the wiring harness from the transmission controller (TRANS module) to the solenoid connector to ensure there are no shorts between the wires or to the tractor chassis.
Inspect the pins inside the solenoid connector and the ECU for corrosion, moisture ingress, or damage.
Repair steps
Safety First
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Component
Locate the powershift transmission control valve block on the side of the transmission housing. Identify the specific "L" solenoid (X479).
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the valve block with brake cleaner or compressed air to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the L solenoid.
Removal
Depending on the exact valve block design, either remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem to slide the electromagnetic coil off, or unbolt the entire cartridge valve assembly from the block.
Installation
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic/transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and tighten the retaining nut/bolts to the OEM torque specification.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness to the new solenoid.
Testing
Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor and use a diagnostic tool to clear the T244 fault code. Test drive the tractor, cycling through all powershift gears to ensure smooth shifting and verify that the code does not return.
