T250

Massey Ferguson T250 – TRANS (Transmission Control Module): Issue With Powershift N Solenoid Supply Voltage (TRANS)

Issue description

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the 'N' solenoid (X480) on the side of the transmission for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation.

  2. Disconnect the plug at the solenoid and check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.

  3. Measure the resistance across the pins of the N solenoid and compare it to a known good solenoid on the same block (e.g., solenoids P or L). A dead short or an open reading indicates an internally failed solenoid coil.

  4. Perform a voltage supply test at the harness connector with the key on and the transmission commanding the N solenoid to rule out a broken wire between the TRANS module and the solenoid.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Clean the area around the transmission solenoid bank thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Ensure all hydraulic and transmission pressure is relieved.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty Powershift N Solenoid (X480).

  4. Remove Solenoid

Remove the retaining bolts or snap rings holding the solenoid valve into the transmission valve block.

  5. Extract and Inspect

Carefully pull the solenoid straight out. Inspect the bore for debris or scoring.

  6. Install New Solenoid

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert it into the bore and secure it with the retaining hardware.

  7. Reconnect and Test

Reconnect the wiring harness. Start the tractor, clear the T250 fault code using a diagnostic tool or the dash interface, and test the transmission through all powershift ranges to ensure smooth shifting and no returning codes.
