Massey Ferguson T251 – Transmission Module (TRANS / TRANS2) / Autotronic 5: Issue With Powershift N Solenoid Supply Voltage

Indicates an open circuit on the N X480 - Powershift module solenoid valve. The transmission controller triggers this code when the measured current for this solenoid drops below 13 mA in relation to the required value.

   Verify live current of the N X480 solenoid using a diagnostic tool to confirm it is reading below 13 mA.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Transmission Module (Autotronic 5) and the X480 Powershift solenoid for breaks, chafing, or pinched wires.

   Disconnect the plug at the X480 solenoid and inspect for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture.

   Measure the internal resistance of the N X480 solenoid coil with a multimeter to determine if the coil itself has failed internally (open circuit).

   Ensure the tractor is turned off and the battery is disconnected to prevent short circuits.

   Locate the X480 Powershift module solenoid valve on the transmission valve block.

   If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or a faulty connector, repair or replace the affected harness section.

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil is open (failed), remove the retaining hardware holding the X480 solenoid valve in place.

   Remove the faulty solenoid valve and clean the mounting surface.

   Install the new X480 Powershift module solenoid valve and torque to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and clear the T251 fault code using a diagnostic tool. Test the powershift functions to ensure the code does not return.
