Massey Ferguson T4124 – Transmission Control Unit (TRANS / TCU): Park Lock Switch On Steering Column Direction Lever, Signal Issue
Issue description
A malfunction or signal error originating from the park lock sensor/switch integrated into the forward/reverse shuttle lever on the steering column. The controller is receiving an erratic, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal, meaning the system cannot reliably determine whether the park lock (parking brake) is engaged or disengaged. When this code is active, the tractor may default to a transmission protection mode.

Check the cause
Verify the physical operation of the steering column direction lever (shuttle lever) and the park lock button, ensuring smooth movement and clicking into detents without excessive play.
Remove the steering column shroud and inspect the wiring harness exiting the base of the shuttle lever for chafed wires, pinched lines, or loose connector pins.
Test the continuity of the park lock switch circuit using a multimeter while toggling the switch to check for out-of-spec resistance or an open/shorted circuit.
Inspect the main harness connections at the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) for moisture or corrosion causing high resistance in the signal wire.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
Remove Shrouds
Unscrew and remove the upper and lower plastic steering column covers to expose the base of the direction lever.
Disconnect Harness
Locate the electrical connector for the shuttle lever assembly and carefully unplug it.
Remove the Lever
Remove the mounting screws or retaining bolts holding the shuttle lever assembly to the steering column bracket.
Install New Part
Mount the new Forward/Reverse Shuttle Lever assembly and secure it with the retaining hardware.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Reassembly & Test
Reinstall the steering column shrouds. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the forward/reverse shuttle functions and the park lock engagement to verify the T4124 code has cleared.
