T412C

Massey Ferguson T412C – Transmission Control Module (TRANS): Steering Column Forward/Reverse Drive Lever Issue DYNA VT (TRANS) / X56 - Power Control lever Signal error when in neutral position

Issue description

The transmission controller is receiving an invalid, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal from the left-hand Power Control lever (component X56) specifically when the lever is resting in the neutral position.

Check the cause

  1. Check for related dash codes (e.g., D144, D145, D146, D147, D159, D160) that indicate electrical signal issues originating from the X56 Power Control lever.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading from the X56 lever to the steering column junction (X534/X540) and the transmission harness junction (X535) for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or loose pins.

  3. Disconnect the lever and check for corrosion or moisture in the connector. Verify that the lever is receiving the correct reference voltage and ground from the transmission controller.

  4. Test the internal neutral switch or potentiometer inside the Power Control lever. If wiring is intact and voltage is present, the internal switch has likely failed.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts or accidental module damage during the repair.

  2. Access the Steering Column

Remove the plastic shrouds/cowling surrounding the steering column to expose the base of the left-hand Power Control lever.

  3. Disconnect the Lever

Locate the electrical connector for the X56 Power Control lever and carefully unplug it.

  4. Remove the Faulty Lever

Unbolt the retaining screws/bolts holding the lever assembly to the steering column bracket and remove the unit.

  5. Install the New Lever

Mount the replacement Power Control lever to the steering column and secure the fasteners.

  6. Reconnect and Route Wiring

Plug the electrical connector back in. Ensure the wiring harness is routed safely away from any moving parts in the steering tilt/telescope mechanism.

  7. Reassemble

    Reinstall the steering column shrouds.

  8. Test

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, clear the stored T412C fault code, and test the tractor's forward, reverse, and neutral functions to ensure the transmission engages properly and the code does not return.
