T412E

Massey Ferguson T412E – Transmission Control Module (TRANS): Steering Column Forward/Reverse Drive Lever Issue DYNA VT (TRANS)

Issue description

The transmission controller detects that the electrical signal from the Power Control lever (Component X56) is outside of its normal operating parameters (e.g., short-circuited or open) during an upshift or speed increase command.

Applies to these machines

  • 7614
  • 7615
  • 7616
  • 7618
  • 7619
  • 7620
  • 7622

  • 6600 Series
  • 7700 Series
  • 8600 Series
  • 8700 Series

Check the cause

  1. Remove the steering column shrouds and visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the Power Control lever (Component X56) for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or loose connections.

  2. Disconnect the multi-pin plug at the base of the lever and check for bent pins, moisture, or corrosion, which can cause signal resistance.

  3. Using a multimeter or dealer diagnostic tool, monitor the voltage/signal output of the lever while moving it into the increase speed position to check if the signal is short-circuited to ground (0V) or +12V.

  4. Check for accompanying codes like D160 or D164, which indicate the lever's neutral switch is also failing or stuck due to worn internal contacts.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Lever

Remove the plastic shrouds/cowling surrounding the steering column to expose the mounting base of the Power Control lever.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the electrical connector from the base of the lever assembly.

  4. Remove the Lever

Remove the mounting screws/fasteners securing the lever bracket to the steering column and slide the faulty lever out.

  5. Install the New Part

Position the new Power Control lever onto the steering column and secure it with the mounting fasteners.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector firmly into the new lever.

  7. Reassembly

    Reinstall the steering column shrouds.

  8. Calibration/Testing

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and test the forward/reverse shuttle and speed increase/decrease functions to ensure the T412E code has cleared and the transmission responds correctly.
