Massey Ferguson T412F – TRANS: Forward/Reverse Drive Lever Signal Error
Issue description
Fault code T412F indicates a signal error from the X56 Power Control lever when reducing speed. The transmission control module (TRANS) is receiving an out-of-range, erratic, or missing electrical signal from the steering column shuttle lever during speed reduction or direction changes.

Check the cause
Remove the steering column shroud and visually inspect the X56 Power Control lever for physical damage or mechanical binding.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the forward/reverse lever for chafed wires, pinched harnesses within the steering column tilt mechanism, or loose/corroded pins at the connector.
Monitor the signal voltage from the X56 lever using a multimeter or diagnostic tool while moving it through its functions. Look for voltage dropping out or spiking erratically, which indicates a faulty internal potentiometer or switch.
Repair steps
Disconnect power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the lever
Remove the plastic covers and shrouds surrounding the steering column to expose the base of the forward/reverse shuttle lever (X56).
Disconnect wiring
Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the base of the lever assembly.
Remove the lever
Remove the mounting screws or retaining bolts holding the lever assembly to the steering column bracket.
Install the new part
Mount the new Power Control lever (Part # 3789724M93) into position and secure it with the retaining screws.
Reconnect wiring
Plug the electrical connector into the new lever, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Reassemble steering column
Reinstall the steering column shrouds and plastic covers.
Test operation
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the forward/reverse shuttle and speed reduction functions to ensure smooth operation and verify that the T412F code has cleared.
