Massey Ferguson T4147 – TRANS (Transmission Control Module / TCU): Transmission Range Has Not Moved After Range Solenoid Has Been Energised DYNA VT (TRANS)
Issue description
The transmission control unit attempted to shift the tractor between the High (Hare) and Low (Tortoise) speed ranges by energizing the appropriate shift solenoid, but the system did not detect the physical movement of the range selector mechanism.

Check the cause
Verify the transmission hydraulic oil level and check for filter blockages, as low pressure (below ~18 bar) will prevent the mechanical shift.
Test the X17 Hare/Tortoise position sensor to ensure it is securely mounted and check its signal voltage for changes when a shift is commanded.
Test the electrical resistance and power supply to the X13 (High/Hare) and X14 (Low/Tortoise) solenoid valves, and listen/feel for a click when manually energized.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the transmission control module and the X13, X14, and X17 components for corrosion, shorts to ground, or broken wires.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and allow the transmission oil to cool. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.
Access Components
Locate the transmission control block where the X13 and X14 solenoids and the X17 position sensor are mounted.
Replace Faulty Electrical Components
If the X13 or X14 solenoid failed the resistance or actuation test, remove the retaining hardware, extract the faulty solenoid valve, and install the replacement. If the X17 sensor is providing static or out-of-tolerance readings, replace the sensor.
Mechanical Inspection
If the solenoids and sensor are functioning perfectly, the issue lies within the internal mechanical shift mechanism (e.g., a stuck synchronizer or damaged shift fork). This requires partial disassembly of the transmission range housing for mechanical repair.
Calibration
If the X17 position sensor or the transmission controller was replaced, perform a transmission calibration procedure using the Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool so the TCU learns the new physical end-stops for the Hare and Tortoise ranges.
Test
Clear the T4147 fault code. Start the tractor and test drive it, shifting between the High and Low ranges to confirm the repair.
