T4153

Massey Ferguson T4153 – TRANS: Transmission Oil Temperature High

Issue description

The transmission hydraulic oil temperature sensor (X19) has detected that the transmission oil temperature has exceeded 110°C (230°F). When this code is triggered, the system may prevent further movement or force the tractor into limp home mode to protect the transmission.

Applies to these machines

  • 7622
  • Interim Tier 4 (2012-2015)
  • 7614
  • 7615
  • 7620
  • 7616
  • 7618
  • 7619
  • 7626
  • 7624
  • 8670
  • 8690

Check the cause

  1. Check for concurrent codes (e.g., T4150 or T4156) which indicate a blocked filter starving the transmission of oil

  2. Verify the transmission hydraulic oil level, as low oil volume is a primary cause of rapid overheating

  3. Inspect the transmission oil for pollution, degradation, or a burnt smell

  4. Inspect the transmission oil cooler (component 1Z3) for external blockages like dust, mud, or crop debris

  5. Test the X19 Transmission Hydraulic Oil Temperature Sensor and its wiring harness for shorts or open circuits

Repair steps

  1. Halt Operation

Stop the tractor immediately. The service manual explicitly states 'No further movement' when this code is active.

  2. Cool Down

Allow the transmission to cool down naturally to a safe temperature.

  3. Clean the Cooling Package

Blow out the transmission oil cooler and surrounding radiators with compressed air to ensure adequate airflow.

  4. Correct Fluid Levels

If the transmission oil level is low, top it up with the OEM-specified transmission hydraulic fluid.

  5. Service the Filter/Fluid

If the oil is degraded or if a filter blockage code (T4156) is present, drain the transmission oil and replace the transmission filter element.

  6. Replace the Sensor

If the fluid level and coolers are fine but the code persists immediately upon startup (when the tractor is cold), locate the X19 temperature sensor on the transmission housing. Disconnect the harness, unthread the sensor, and install a replacement.

  7. Clear and Test

Clear the DTC from the TRANS module and test drive the tractor under load to verify the transmission temperature remains within the normal operating range.

Parts you might need
