Massey Ferguson T4162 – Transmission Control Module (TCU): Issue With High Speed Range Solenoid DYNA VT (TRANS)
Issue description
When the operator attempts to shift the transmission from the low-speed range ('Tortoise') to the high-speed range ('Hare'), the controller detects an electrical or mechanical control error with the X13 solenoid valve, causing the tractor to default to a transmission protection mode (limp mode).

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the X13 Hare range solenoid valve for rub points, open circuits, or shorts to ground.
Disconnect the X13 solenoid and test the coil resistance with a multimeter (a healthy solenoid typically reads around 10 ohms).
Check the electrical connector at the solenoid for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins.
Verify the transmission hydraulic oil level and ensure the transmission filter is not blocked.
Ensure the X17 Hare/Tortoise range position sensor is reading correctly.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the handbrake, and turn off the engine. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure if required by your specific model's manual.
Removal
Locate the X13 Hare range solenoid on the transmission valve block. Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining fastener/clip and carefully pull the solenoid valve out of the block.
Installation
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission hydraulic oil. Insert the new valve into the block, secure the retaining fastener, and reconnect the electrical connector.
Mandatory Calibration
Access the calibration screen (CAL1) on the tractor's display and run the Hare/Tortoise range calibration. Prerequisites: Hand brake disengaged, Power Control lever in neutral, Clutch pedal pressed down, Engine speed less than 1000 rpm. Switch off the ignition for at least 30 seconds after completion to validate and save.
