Massey Ferguson T4163 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS): Speed Limiting Valve Fault

Indicates a malfunction with the speed limiting solenoid valve on the transmission. When this fault is triggered, the tractor's control system enters a protective limp-home mode, placing a hard restriction on the tractor's maximum speed, limiting it to 30 km/h (19 mph).

   Check transmission hydraulic oil level and ensure the oil is not heavily polluted, which can clog valve screens

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the transmission solenoid valve block for chafing, breaks, or corrosion

   Test the resistance of the speed limiting solenoid valve coil to determine if it has an internal short or open circuit

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Allow the transmission to cool and relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

   Locate the transmission solenoid valve block.

   Thoroughly clean the area around the speed limiting valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic circuit.

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty speed limiting solenoid valve.

   Unthread and remove the defective solenoid valve from the transmission block.

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new OEM solenoid valve with clean transmission fluid and install it into the valve block.

   Torque to the manufacturer's specification.

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Start the tractor, clear the T4163 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and perform a test drive.

   Confirm the 30 km/h (19 mph) speed restriction has been lifted.
