Massey Ferguson T41A0 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS): Issue With Transmission Actuator DYNA VT (TRANS)
Issue description
Fault with CAN communication between the EXT Lite controller and the joystick (transmission actuator). The system has detected that the CAN network control signal is interrupted or illogical.

Check the cause
Check CAN Bus Wiring: Inspect the wiring harness between the joystick (transmission actuator) and the EXT Lite transmission controller. Look for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or loose connections.
Inspect Connectors: Disconnect and inspect the 96-pin connector (X174) at the EXT Lite controller and the connector at the base of the joystick. Check for bent pins, corrosion, or moisture intrusion.
Test CAN Communication: Use a multimeter to check for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power on the CAN High and CAN Low lines between the joystick and the controller.
Verify Power Supply: Check the power supply to the EXT Lite controller (circuit EFD00169_11) to ensure the module is receiving proper voltage.
Repair steps
Disconnect Battery
Always disconnect the tractor's battery before working on the CAN bus or transmission control modules to prevent electrical spikes.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or short in the CAN bus harness between the joystick and the EXT Lite controller, repair the wiring using appropriate OEM-approved connectors and heat shrink.
Replace the Joystick/Actuator
If the wiring and power supply are intact, the internal CAN transmitter in the joystick has likely failed. Remove the armrest trim to access the joystick mounting hardware. Disconnect the electrical harness, unbolt the joystick, and install the replacement unit.
Replace the EXT Lite Controller
If a known-good joystick does not resolve the issue, the EXT Lite transmission controller (X174) is faulty. Locate the controller, disconnect the 96-pin harness, and swap the module.
Reprogram / Calibrate
Any replacement of the EXT Lite controller or the DYNA VT joystick requires an AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to flash the software, pair the module to the tractor's CAN network, and calibrate the transmission actuator positions.
