T41A1

Massey Ferguson T41A1 – Transmission Control Unit (TRANS): Issue With Transmission Actuator DYNA VT (TRANS)

Issue description

The angle of rotation of the transmission actuator is limited, but this limitation is not being caused by the speed limiting solenoid valve. This points to a mechanical binding within the actuator, a sensor discrepancy, or a communication failure preventing the actuator from reaching its commanded position.

Applies to these machines

  • 7622
  • Interim Tier 4 (2012-2015)
  • 7614
  • 7615
  • 7620
  • 7616
  • 7618
  • 7619
  • 7626
  • 7624
  • 7600 Series
  • 8600 Series
  • 8650
  • 8670
  • 8690

Check the cause

  1. Check transmission fluid level and inspect for polluted oil or a blocked high-pressure transmission oil filter (fluid/filter cause)

  2. Inspect CAN bus communication for interrupted network control between the EXT Lite transmission controller and the main transmission module (communication cause)

  3. Check the internal position sensor (increment sensor) signal for interruptions or illogical readings (sensor cause)

  4. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to the X18 Transmission control module for corrosion, bent pins, or damaged wires (wiring cause)

Repair steps

  1. Fluid Service

If the transmission oil is polluted or the filter is blocked, drain the transmission oil, replace the high-pressure filter element, and refill with clean, OEM-spec hydraulic/transmission fluid.

  2. Harness Repair

If diagnostic checks reveal a short or open circuit in the CAN network or the X18 module wiring, repair or replace the affected harness section.

  3. Actuator / Module Replacement

If the wiring and fluid are good, the mechanical binding is likely internal to the transmission actuator or the X18 control module has failed. Remove and replace the faulty transmission actuator assembly.

  4. Calibration

After replacing the actuator or the X18/X174 controllers, a dealer technician must use the Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool (e.g., Autotronic 4/5 software) to initialize the module, find the Reference output (Position "0"), and recalibrate the Dyna-VT transmission.
