Massey Ferguson T41A2 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / EXT Lite transmission controller: Issue With Transmission Actuator DYNA VT (TRANS)
Issue description
The CAN network control is interrupted. The controller has lost communication with the transmission actuator over the CAN bus network.

Check the cause
Verify battery health, alternator output, and ensure system voltage is stable, as low voltage can cause CAN bus interruptions.
Locate the EXT Lite transmission controller and inspect the X174 (96-pin) and X598 (58-pin) connectors for moisture, corrosion, backed-out pins, or damage.
Check the CAN bus wiring between the EXT Lite controller and the transmission actuator for open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to power. Look for harness rub points along the transmission housing.
Test the resistance of the transmission actuator solenoid coil to ensure it is within spec and not internally shorted.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.
Clean Connections
Disconnect the X174 and X598 connectors at the EXT Lite controller. Clean the contacts thoroughly with electrical contact cleaner and allow them to dry. Apply dielectric grease to prevent future moisture intrusion.
Repair Wiring
If the continuity test revealed a break or short in the CAN network wiring, repair the damaged section of the harness using proper soldering and heat-shrink techniques, or replace the affected harness pigtail.
Replace Actuator
If the wiring and controller outputs are good but the actuator fails resistance testing or is physically damaged, remove and replace the Dyna-VT transmission actuator.
Replace EXT Lite Controller
If the wiring is intact, the actuator is functional, and the CAN interruption persists, the EXT Lite transmission controller itself has likely failed internally.
Recalibrate
Reconnect the battery. If the EXT Lite controller or actuator was replaced, the tractor will require dealer-level software (like the Jaltest diagnostic tool or AGCO EDT) to clear the codes and recalibrate the Dyna-VT transmission.
