T41A5

Massey Ferguson T41A5 – Transmission Control Module (TCU): Issue With Transmission Actuator Internal Position Sensor DYNA VT (TRANS)

Issue description

The transmission controller is unable to read the angle or reference point of the CVT actuator because the sensor signal is out of range, interrupted, or missing upon startup. The controller defaults to a safety state, preventing the tractor from driving.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors running to the transmission actuator position sensor (located on top of the transmission) for rubbed wires, corrosion, or a loose plug.

  2. Verify that the transmission controller is sending the correct reference voltage (usually 5V) to the sensor and that the ground circuit is intact.

  3. Use a diagnostic tool (such as AGCO EDT, Jaltest, or Texa) to view the live angle/position data of the CVT actuator. If the value is frozen, erratic, or completely blank, the sensor is likely dead or disconnected.

Repair steps

  1. Attempt Actuator Calibration

Perform a software calibration of the CVT actuator using an approved diagnostic tool to force the controller to relearn the minimum and maximum angle reference points.

  2. Access the Sensor

If calibration fails or the signal is physically lost, access the actuator sensor by removing access panels in the cab floor or lifting the cab slightly to reach the top of the Dyna-VT transmission housing.

  3. Replace the Sensor/Actuator

Disconnect the electrical harness and remove the faulty internal position sensor/actuator unit. Install the new OEM sensor, ensuring no dirt enters the transmission housing.

  4. Re-calibrate

Perform a mandatory transmission calibration via the diagnostic tool so the TCU can learn the new sensor's reference points.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Dyna-VT Transmission Actuator / CVT Internal Position Sensor

If the internal sensor has failed catastrophically or damaged the mechanical actuator assembly, the entire actuator block may need to be replaced or sent out for remanufacturing.
