T41B1

Massey Ferguson T41B1 – TRANS (EXT Lite transmission controller): Transmission Range Change Issue DYNA VT (TRANS)

Issue description

The transmission is failing to shift into or properly recognize the low-speed range, either due to an electrical failure at the solenoid, a sensor reading error, or a mechanical binding issue within the transmission shift forks.

Applies to these machines

  • 7622
  • Interim Tier 4 (2012-2015)
  • 7614
  • 7615
  • 7620
  • 7616
  • 7618
  • 7619
  • 7626
  • 7624
  • 8650
  • 8660
  • 8670
  • 8680
  • 8690

Check the cause

  1. Verify transmission oil level and check for filter blockages or polluted oil causing hydraulic pressure drops.

  2. Inspect wiring harnesses and connectors between the EXT Lite transmission controller and the transmission range solenoids.

  3. Test the low-speed ('Tortoise') solenoid valve for proper electrical resistance and verify it receives voltage when a shift is commanded.

  4. Check the gearbox range position sensor to ensure it is sending the correct position signal to the controller.

  5. If electrical tests pass, check for mechanical binding where the shift collar may not be completely disengaging due to worn shift forks.

Repair steps

  1. Drain transmission oil

Drain the transmission oil to allow access to the internal shift components.

  2. Remove shift cover

Remove the shift cover on the side of the transmission to access the shift cylinder and forks.

  3. Inspect mechanical linkages

Inspect the mechanical linkages, shift forks, and the shift collar. Look for excessive wear or broken forks that prevent the collar from sliding smoothly between ranges.

  4. Test solenoid and cylinder

Test the low-range solenoid valve and the small hydraulic cylinder behind the shift cover. You can activate the cylinder with shop air while the cover is off to verify mechanical movement.

  5. Replace solenoid valve

Replace the faulty low-speed ('Tortoise') solenoid valve if it fails electrical or mechanical testing.

  6. Adjust shift mechanism

Check and adjust the high/low shift mechanism. As components wear, they can shift too far and get stuck in a range.

  7. Reinstall and refill

Reinstall the shift cover with a new gasket/sealant, refill the transmission with clean, spec-compliant hydraulic/transmission oil, and clear the fault codes via the diagnostic tool.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Transmission Control Solenoid Valve (Electrovalve)

    4363356M3

Replaces older part numbers 3794719M4, 3794719M3, 3794719M2. Fits a wide variety of Dyna transmissions including the 7600 series.

  • Dyna-VT Specific Solenoid Control Valve

    G339150600050

Specifically listed for Dyna-VT models in the 6700, 7700, 8600, and 8700 series.

  • Gearbox Range Position Sensor

Replace if diagnostics point to a sensor failure rather than the solenoid.

  • Transmission Oil Filter

Replace if blocked or if oil is drained and replaced.
