T41C1

Massey Ferguson T41C1 – Autotronic 4 Transmission Controller (Module X174): Engine stalled due to transmission overload

Issue description

Triggered when the load placed on the transmission exceeds the engine's capacity to maintain RPM, resulting in an engine stall. It is primarily an operational error or a symptom of excessive mechanical drag.

Applies to these machines

  • Massey Ferguson 8600 Series (Models 8650, 8660, 8670, 8680, 8690)

Check the cause

  1. Verify operating conditions to confirm if the operator was pulling an excessively heavy load, operating in too high of a gear range, or using ground-engaging implements too deeply

  2. Verify that engine oil, transmission oil, auxiliary tank oil, and front axle/final drive oil levels are between the nominal and maximum marks

  3. Check for a blocked transmission filter, which can cause hydraulic starvation and excessive drag

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Transmission Tension

Disengage the clutch/transmission drive to relieve the physical pressure exerted on the transmission components.

  2. Reduce the Load

Decrease the load on the transmission by raising the implement, reducing towed weight, or selecting a lower gear/speed range.

  3. Restart and Test

Restart the engine and attempt the operation again under the reduced load.

  4. Address Persistent Faults

If the code triggers under light or no load, drain the transmission fluid and inspect the filters for heavy metal shavings. If the controller itself is faulty, it will need to be replaced and recalibrated by a dealer.
