T41D6

Massey Ferguson T41D6 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU): Calibration error

Issue description

This code indicates that the transmission controller has detected an error in the calibration parameters of the transmission or shuttle system. It typically occurs when the transmission has lost its calibration settings, a calibration procedure was interrupted/failed, or a sensor value (such as the shuttle position potentiometer) is out of tolerance ranges.

Applies to these machines

  • 5400 series
  • 6400 series
  • 7600 series
  • 8600 series

Check the cause

  1. Check that the transmission oil is at the correct level (between nominal and maximum)

  2. Ensure the transmission oil temperature is between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F)

  3. Cycle the Power Shuttle lever (forward and reverse) 10 times in each direction for 5 to 10 seconds to warm up the control units and solenoid valves

  4. Ensure the PTO, differential lock, and front axle (4WD) are completely disengaged

  5. Ensure the tractor is parked on completely flat ground

Repair steps

  1. Position the tractor

Position the tractor on flat ground, place the transmission in neutral, and release the parking brake.

  2. Configure PowerShuttle settings

Configure the PowerShuttle progressivity settings to "0" on the dash control center to ensure a baseline sensitivity adjustment.

  3. Raise engine speed

Raise the engine speed to exactly 1500 RPM (± 100 RPM) using the hand throttle.

  4. Raise Power Shuttle arm

Raise the Power Shuttle arm (located to the left of the steering wheel) to the raised position and hold it there while simultaneously pressing the differential lock switch.

  5. Hold controls

Hold both for approximately 10 seconds until the right-hand instrument panel screen displays "Ct".

  6. Begin calibration

Once "Ct" is displayed, place the Power Shuttle arm into the forward position to begin the calibration process.

  7. Wait for calibration

The calibration will take approximately 10 minutes. The screen will continuously show "Ct", and it is normal to hear the transmission shifting and making noises during this time.

  8. Verify completion

Once complete, the screen will display the transmission ratio you were in before starting (e.g., "1A/2A" or "1E/2E").

  9. Save settings

To save the new settings, place the Power Shuttle into the neutral position, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and turn the engine off.

  10. Test drive

Restart the tractor and test drive using a variety of maneuvers (forward to reverse, neutral to forward, etc.) to validate smooth shifting.

Fits 5400, 6400, and 7400 series. Requires dealer programming upon installation.

  • Autotronic 5 Transmission Controller

    3796241M97

Fits 5400, 6400, and 7400 series. Requires dealer programming upon installation.

  • Transmission Temperature Sensor

    V836864360

Fits 6400, 7400, 8400 series. A faulty temp sensor will prevent the ECU from allowing calibration.

  • Transmission Temperature Sensor

    3618249M3

Fits 6400, 7400, 8400 series. A faulty temp sensor will prevent the ECU from allowing calibration.

  • Transmission Temperature Sensor

    4358296M1

Fits 6400, 7400, 8400 series. A faulty temp sensor will prevent the ECU from allowing calibration.

  • Shuttle Position Potentiometer

Located on the transmission cover on the right-hand side of the tractor. Incorrect voltage from this potentiometer will cause calibration failure and jerking.
