Massey Ferguson T41D9 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / Autotronic 4 or Autotronic 5: Calibration error
Issue description
The transmission calibration process failed, was interrupted, or sensor values fell out of the acceptable tolerance ranges during the calibration attempt.
Applies to these machines
1 machine- Massey Ferguson 8600 Series (8650, 8660, 8670, 8680, 8690)
Check the cause
Ensure the transmission oil temperature is at least 40°C (104°F)
Verify the transmission oil level is between the nominal and maximum marks
Ensure the tractor is parked on flat ground
Verify the hand brake is applied or the ParkLock is engaged
Ensure the Power Control lever is in the Neutral position
Verify the Hare range is engaged
Check for other active transmission fault codes (such as T4105, T4107, or T41E0) and resolve them before attempting calibration
Repair steps
Satisfy preliminary conditions
Satisfy all preliminary conditions listed above (40°C temp, Neutral, Hare range, ParkLock engaged).
Access CAL1 screen
Access the instrument panel DIAG mode via the Dash Control Center or use the dealer diagnostic tool to navigate to the CAL1 screen.
Start calibration
Press 'OK' to start the calibration.
Observe engine speed
The engine speed will automatically adjust to 1600 rpm.
Observe dash symbols
The Hare and Tortoise symbols on the dash will flash alternately.
Allow calibration to run
Allow the calibration to run. It takes place in 7 steps (calibrating the hydraulic motors and pumps) and lasts for approximately 6 seconds.
Observe calibration result
Observe the display for the result: 'OK' means successful, 'ERROR' means failed. If it fails, diagnose and repair the underlying hardware fault before retrying.
Save calibration values
Switch off the ignition for at least 30 seconds to validate and save the new calibration values to the Autotronic controller.
