T41DB

Massey Ferguson T41DB – Transmission Controller: Calibration error

Issue description

The transmission control system has lost its calibration parameters, failed a recent calibration routine, or is receiving sensor values that are out of the acceptable tolerance ranges required to maintain calibration.

Applies to these machines

  • Massey Ferguson 8600 Series
  • MF 8670
  • MF 8690
  • Massey Ferguson 6700 S Series
  • Massey Ferguson 5400 Series
  • Massey Ferguson 6400 Series
  • Massey Ferguson 7400 Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the transmission oil level is correct (between the nominal and maximum marks on the dipstick/sight glass)

  2. Ensure the transmission fluid is at the correct operating temperature (15°C to 60°C)

  3. Check the shuttle position potentiometer and range position sensors for correct adjustment and voltage

  4. Ensure the engine can hold a steady 1500 RPM (± 100 RPM) required for calibration

Repair steps

  1. Warm Up

Bring the tractor up to operating temperature (15–60°C).

  2. Component Prep

Run the engine with the transmission lever and Power Shuttle lever in neutral, and the PTO clutch engaged.

  3. Cycle Valves

Before starting the calibration, move the Power Shuttle lever 10 times in each direction (forward and reverse). Leave the lever in each position for 5 to 10 seconds to ensure the control unit and solenoid valves are brought up to the exact temperature of the transmission fluid.

  4. Initiate Calibration

Set the engine speed to exactly 1500 RPM (± 100 RPM).

  5. Start Calibration Process

Engage the power shuttle and differential lock for 3 seconds, then shift the power shuttle lever to start the automatic 2-minute calibration process. Note: Keep the PowerControl lever in the forward position during the active phase.

  6. Validation

Once the 2-minute process completes, validate the calibration by performing several forward and reverse maneuvers to check for smooth shifting.

  7. Replace Components if Calibration Fails

If the calibration repeatedly fails, the Autotronic controller or the shuttle potentiometer may be faulty and require replacement.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • Autotronic 4 Transmission Controller (ECU)

    Component ID: X174

  • Autotronic 5 Transmission Controller (ECU)

    Component ID: CAB151

  • Shuttle Position Potentiometer

Mounts on the transmission cover on the right-hand side

  • OEM Transmission Fluid

Required if fluid is degraded or low, preventing successful calibration
