T41DE

Massey Ferguson T41DE – Transmission Control Unit (Autotronic 4 or Autotronic 5): Calibration error

Issue description

The transmission control system has detected an error during its calibration process, or the transmission requires a recalibration to function correctly.

Applies to these machines

  • 8600 series
  • 7600 series
  • 6700 S series
  • 6400 series
  • 5400 series

Check the cause

  1. Check for other active faults (e.g., T41EB for range sensor fault, or T41E0 for clutch solenoid valve failure), as these will prevent successful calibration

  2. Verify transmission oil temperature is between 35°C (95°F) and 45°C (113°F) via the Dash Control Center

  3. Ensure engine speed can be maintained at 1500 rpm ± 100 during the procedure

  4. Warm up components by activating the PowerShuttle (forward and reverse) 10 times in each direction for 5-10 seconds

Repair steps

  1. Position the tractor on flat, level ground.

  2. Warm up the tractor until the transmission oil reaches 35°C - 45°C.

Engaging the PTO can help speed this up.

  3. Enter calibration mode using the dash controls.

On some models, this involves holding specific buttons until the right-hand transmission gear screen displays "Ct".

  4. Once "Ct" is displayed, place the PowerShuttle arm into the Forward position to begin the automated calibration.

  5. Leave the tractor running.

The screen will continuously display "Ct" for approximately 10 minutes. It is normal to hear the transmission shifting and making noises during this time.

  6. Wait for calibration to complete.

Once calibration is complete, the screen will display the transmission ratio (e.g., "1A/2A").

  7. Save the new calibration settings.

Place the PowerShuttle into Neutral, disengage the differential lock, idle the tractor down, and switch the engine off.

  8. Restart the tractor and test drive it using a variety of maneuvers.

Test forward to reverse, neutral to forward, etc., to validate that the shifting is smooth.
