T5133

Massey Ferguson T5133 – TRANS1: Issue With 4wd Solenoid Circuit Dyna VT

Issue description

Control error with the X5 - 4WD solenoid valve indicating an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or out-of-range resistance) in the circuit that controls the engagement of the 4-Wheel Drive (4WD) system.

Applies to these machines

  • 7622
  • Interim Tier 4 (2012-2015)
  • 7614
  • 7615
  • 7620
  • 7616
  • 7618
  • 7619
  • 7626
  • 7624
  • 8670
  • 8690

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the TRANS1 controller and the X5 4WD solenoid valve for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the X5 4WD solenoid coil to ensure it is not open or shorted to ground.

  3. Verify that the TRANS1 controller is sending the correct voltage signal to the solenoid when the 4WD switch (X137) is engaged.

  4. Ensure the transmission oil level is correct and the oil is not polluted, as hydraulic pressure issues can sometimes trigger related transmission control faults.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare tractor for repair

Ensure the tractor is parked on a level surface, the engine is off, and the battery is disconnected to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate solenoid valve

Locate the X5 4WD solenoid valve on the transmission valve block.

  3. Disconnect electrical connector

Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid coil.

  4. Replace faulty coil

If diagnostics point to a faulty coil, remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem and slide the old coil off the valve spool.

  5. Replace faulty valve cartridge

If the entire valve cartridge is faulty, unthread the valve from the transmission block (have a catch pan ready to catch any residual hydraulic fluid).

  6. Install new parts

Install the new X5 solenoid valve or coil, ensuring it is seated correctly.

  7. Reconnect electrical connector

Reconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid.

  8. Finalize repair and test

Reconnect the battery, clear the T5133 fault code from the TRANS1 controller, and test the 4WD engagement to verify the repair.
