T5134

Massey Ferguson T5134 – Suspension Controller / Dash (Autotronic 5): Issue With Signal Voltage From Suspended Front Axle Position Sensor

Issue description

The electronic system is receiving an incorrect signal voltage (either too high, too low, or an open/short circuit) from the sensor that monitors the precise angle and position of the suspended front axle.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the sensor housing on the front axle and its wiring harness for moisture intrusion or corrosion caused by road salt or hydraulic fluid.

  2. Test the wiring harness connecting to the sensor (X166/X235) for continuity, checking for an open circuit, a short circuit to +12V, or a short circuit to earth.

  3. Using a diagnostic tool, check the live voltage values of the sensor to see if the value is flagged as too high or too low.

  4. Attempt to recalibrate the front axle position sensor, as incorrect calibration values can trigger this fault.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower any implements, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Removal

Locate the front axle position sensor on the suspended front axle assembly. Carefully disconnect the wiring harness, ensuring no dirt or debris falls into the connector. Unbolt and remove the faulty sensor.

  3. Installation

Install the new sensor. Note: Handle with care, as these are precision instruments.

  4. Sealing

Reconnect the wiring harness. Ensure the connections are perfectly clean and properly sealed, as moisture intrusion will cause premature failure of the new part.

  5. Calibration

Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor. You must perform a calibration of the new front axle position sensor using the tractor's diagnostic interface for the system to operate properly and clear the T5134 code.
