Massey Ferguson T51FF – Autotronic 4 transmission controller: Malfunction Autotronic 4

   Check battery terminals to ensure they are secure and free from dirt, as voltage spikes or low voltage can cause temporary memory/EEPROM glitches.

   Inspect the electrical power supply to the Autotronic 4 unit, specifically checking the dedicated F21 5 Amp fuse.

   Connect a dealer diagnostic tool (such as Massey Ferguson Wintest or Jaltest) to read the ECU failure memory and attempt to clear the error codes stored by the DCC2 and Autotronic 4.

   Verify that there are no accompanying CAN network initialization errors (such as code T41B0) that might be interrupting the signal to the module.

   Attempt Reprogramming

   Using the Wintest diagnostic software, attempt to reprogram and set the parameters for the Autotronic 4 unit.

   Module Replacement

   If the internal memory is permanently damaged and the code cannot be cleared, the Autotronic 4 unit must be replaced.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Remove the Faulty Unit

   Locate the Autotronic 4 transmission unit and disconnect its wiring harness (typically a 68-way harness connector). Unbolt and remove the controller.

   Install the New Unit

   Mount the replacement Autotronic 4 controller and securely reconnect the 68-way harness connector.

   Reconnect Power

   Reconnect the tractor's battery.

   Calibration and Programming

   A new Autotronic 4 unit will not work out of the box. You must use the dealer diagnostic tool (Wintest) to program the module, set the tractor's specific parameters, and calibrate the transmission.
