T6104

Massey Ferguson T6104 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply

Issue description

The system has detected an electrical control fault with component X7 (Rear PTO clutch solenoid valve). This can be triggered if the rear PTO solenoid valve circuit is short-circuited to +12 V, short-circuited to earth (ground), in an open circuit, or if an excessive drop in engine speed occurred when engaging the PTO.

Applies to these machines

  • 7622
  • Interim Tier 4 (2012-2015)
  • 7614
  • 7615
  • 7620
  • 7616
  • 7618
  • 7619
  • 7626
  • 7624
  • 7714 through 7726S
  • 6713 S through 6718 S
  • 8650
  • 8660
  • 8670
  • 8680
  • 8690

Check the cause

  1. Test the wiring harness leading to the X7 Rear PTO solenoid valve for continuity, an open circuit, or a short to ground/+12V

  2. Inspect the electrical connector at the solenoid for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins

  3. Check the transmission/hydraulic oil level and quality, as contaminated fluid can cause valves to stick and burn out solenoids prematurely

  4. Verify that the high-pressure transmission oil filter is not blocked, as hydraulic pressure spikes or starvation can impact PTO engagement

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, relieve all hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

The PTO solenoid valve block is located on the rear axle housing, behind the spool valves. Note: OEM manuals state that access to this area is limited, so take care when reaching the component.

  3. Remove the Faulty Valve

Disconnect the electrical connector from the X7 Rear PTO clutch solenoid valve. Unbolt and remove the faulty solenoid valve from the block.

  4. Clean and Prep

Clean the mounting surface on the valve block thoroughly to ensure no dirt or debris enters the hydraulic system.

  5. Install the New Valve

Mount the replacement solenoid valve and torque it to the manufacturer's specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  6. Filter Maintenance (Recommended)

If the old valve failed due to sticking, it is highly recommended to change the hydraulic filter to remove any system contamination.

  7. Test

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the rear PTO engagement to ensure the code is cleared and the PTO engages/disengages smoothly.
