T6110

Massey Ferguson T6110 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS1): Issue With Rear PTO Shaft Output Speed Sensor Signal

Issue description

Signal error from the X16 PTO output shaft speed sensor. The controller is detecting that the signal from the sensor is missing, erratic, or out of the expected range when the PTO is engaged.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the X16 sensor for corrosion, broken wires, or loose pins.

  2. Perform a resistance test on the X16 inductive sensor. Disconnect the sensor and measure its internal resistance with a multimeter (should read around 450 Ohms when the tractor is stopped).

  3. Perform a voltage output test. While the PTO gear is rotating, the sensor should generate an alternating voltage (AC). No voltage indicates a dead sensor.

  4. Check the sensor air gap and adjustment. Verify if the sensor has vibrated loose, which increases the air gap between the sensor tip and the internal tone gear.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Sensor

Find the X16 PTO output shaft speed sensor, which is threaded into the rear transmission/PTO housing.

  2. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

  3. Remove

Loosen the counter-nut (lock nut) and unscrew the faulty sensor from the housing.

  4. Install and Adjust

Thread the new sensor into the housing. Screw it in gently until the tip makes contact with the internal gear, then unscrew it by 3/4 of a turn to set the correct air gap.

  5. Secure

Hold the sensor in place and tighten the counter-nut to lock it at the correct depth.

  6. Reconnect & Clear

Reconnect the electrical harness, clear the T6110 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and test the PTO to ensure the speed registers correctly on the dash.
