T6113

Massey Ferguson T6113 – Transmission Controller (TRANS1): Issue With Rear PTO Shaft Output Speed Sensor Signal

Issue description

The controller detects an erratic, missing, or out-of-range (overspeed) signal from the rear PTO output shaft speed sensor (X16).

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the X16 PTO output shaft speed sensor for chafing, breaks, corrosion, or loose seating.

  2. Remove the X16 sensor and inspect the magnetic tip for a buildup of metal shavings that can distort the magnetic signal and cause an overspeed fault.

  3. Verify that the PTO engages and disengages mechanically without binding to rule out a mechanical fault with speed selection or a seized PTO output shaft.

  4. Test the sensor's internal resistance using a multimeter (specifications often note a 540 OHM reading) to verify if it has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, remove the key, and engage the parking brake.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Locate the X16 Rear PTO Speed Sensor on the rear transmission/PTO housing.

  3. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt or debris from falling into the transmission housing during removal.

  4. Remove the Sensor

Disconnect the electrical harness. Unbolt the sensor (typically a threaded body, e.g., 32mm thread length) and pull it straight out.

  5. Install the New Sensor

Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean transmission fluid. Thread the new sensor into the housing and tighten it to OEM torque specifications.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor harness.

  7. Clear Codes

Connect the Massey Ferguson EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to clear the T6113 error code from the TRANS1 module.

  8. Test Operation

Start the tractor, engage the rear PTO, and verify that the PTO speed displays correctly on the dash/monitor without the code returning.
