T6116

Massey Ferguson T6116 – X145 - PTO/linkage console: PTO/linkage console PTO 540 rpm switch signal error

Issue description

The control unit is receiving an invalid, missing, or continuous (shorted) electrical signal from the 540 rpm PTO speed selection switch. The system flags this when the switch malfunctions electrically or is mechanically stuck (e.g., pressed down for an extended period).

Applies to these machines

  • MF 7600 Series (7614, 7615, 7616, 7618, 7619, 7620, 7622, 7624, 7626)
  • MF 8600 Series (8650, 8670, 8690)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the 540 rpm PTO switch on the right-hand armrest/console to ensure the button is not physically jammed, sticky, or held down by debris.

  2. Remove the switch and test it with a multimeter for proper electrical continuity (verify it opens and closes properly when pressed, and is not shorted or open).

  3. Inspect the wiring harness between the 540 rpm switch and the X145 PTO/linkage console for chafed wires, pinched lines under the console trim, or loose connector pins.

  4. Verify that the switch is receiving the correct reference voltage from the X145 module.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Console

Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panel on the right-hand control console (where the PTO speed selectors and T-lever are located) to access the underside of the switch bank.

  3. Disconnect the Switch

Locate the wiring connector attached to the back of the 540 rpm PTO switch and unplug it.

  4. Remove the Faulty Switch

Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it upward out of the console panel.

  5. Install the New Part

Snap the replacement 540 rpm PTO switch into the console panel until it clicks securely into place.

  6. Reconnect Wiring

Plug the electrical connector back into the new switch.

  7. Reassemble and Test

Reinstall the console trim panel. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and engage the 540 rpm PTO to verify operation and ensure the T6116 fault code has cleared.
