Massey Ferguson T6118 – PTO/linkage console (X145): PTO/linkage console PTO 1000 rpm switch signal error
Issue description
The control unit is receiving an incorrect, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal from the switch used to select the 1000 rpm Power Take-Off (PTO) speed. This usually points to a mechanical failure inside the switch (e.g., stuck contacts), a wiring issue, or a disconnected harness.

Check the cause
Inspect the 1000 rpm PTO speed selection switch on the right-hand console for physical breakage, sticking, or debris preventing it from fully engaging or disengaging.
Access the underside of the PTO/linkage console (X145) and inspect the wiring harness leading to the PTO speed switches for loose connector pins, corrosion, or chafed wires.
Using a multimeter, test the continuity of the 1000 rpm switch to verify it opens and closes the circuit correctly when toggled. Check for proper reference voltage coming from the console to the switch.
Check for accompanying codes (e.g., T611A, T611B, or T611C) indicating PTO speed solenoid valve control errors, which could point to a broader harness failure or console communication error.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the ignition key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Access the Console
Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panels surrounding the right-hand PTO/linkage console to expose the underside of the switch panel.
Disconnect the Harness
Locate the electrical connector plugged into the back of the faulty 1000 rpm PTO speed switch and carefully unplug it.
Remove the Switch
Depress the plastic retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body (or remove the retaining screws, depending on the exact console trim) and push the switch up and out of the console bezel.
Install the Replacement
Push the new OEM switch down into the console slot until the retaining clips snap securely into place.
Reassemble
Plug the electrical harness back into the new switch. Reinstall the console trim panels and secure all hardware.
Test and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the stored T6118 fault code. Start the tractor and engage the PTO at 1000 rpm to verify the repair.
