Massey Ferguson T6141 – Transmission Controller (TRANS1): Rear PTO ON/OFF switch cal or electrical error on switch

The system triggers this code when the rear PTO ON/OFF switch (designated in wiring diagrams as component X128) is detected as being pressed down for over 30 seconds. This indicates either a mechanical issue (the switch is physically jammed or sticking) or an electrical fault (a short circuit keeping the signal closed).

   Inspect the rear PTO ON/OFF switch (X128) in the cab to see if the button is physically stuck in the depressed position due to dirt, spilled liquids, or a broken internal return spring.

   Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test for electrical continuity. If the switch shows a closed circuit even when released, the internal contacts have failed or fused.

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the switch to the transmission controller for rubbed insulation or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground or power.

   Use a diagnostic scan tool to view the live input data for the TRANS1 module and verify if the controller is constantly receiving an 'ON' signal from the switch.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Clean the Area

   If the switch is just mechanically binding due to debris, try cleaning the edges of the button with a plastic-safe contact cleaner and compressed air. If it frees up, re-test.

   Access the Switch

   If the switch is faulty, carefully pry up or unscrew the armrest/side console trim panel housing the PTO controls to access the underside of the switch.

   Remove the Faulty Switch

   Disconnect the electrical pigtail from the back of the switch. Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it up and out of the mounting bezel.

   Install the New Part

   Snap the new OEM PTO switch into the console panel and securely reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reinstall the trim panel, reconnect the battery, and turn the key to the ON position. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the T6141 fault code from the TRANS1 module.

   Test Operation

   Start the tractor and test the PTO engagement and disengagement to ensure the switch operates smoothly and the code does not return.
