Massey Ferguson T6143 – TRANS1: Issue With Signal From External PTO On/Off Button
Issue description
The system has detected a signal error from the external PTO switch (X94) located on the left-hand rear fender. The controller logs this code when the switch is detected as being pressed down for over 30 seconds, or if there is a mechanical or electrical error (such as a short circuit or stuck contact) on the switch itself.

Check the cause
Visually and mechanically inspect the left-hand fender PTO switch (X94) to see if it is physically stuck in the depressed position due to dirt, mud, or debris.
Perform an electrical continuity test on the disconnected switch with a multimeter to verify it opens and closes correctly and is not internally shorted.
Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the switch for corrosion, moisture ingress, or physical damage.
Check the wiring between the switch and the TRANS1 controller to rule out a short to ground or a short to power in the harness.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical arcing or accidental PTO engagement.
Access the Switch
Locate the external PTO switch on the left-hand rear mudguard/fender.
Remove the Faulty Switch
Reach behind the fender panel to access the wiring. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the switch. Unclip or unscrew the retaining collar holding the switch to the fender housing and remove the switch.
Install the New Switch
Insert the new OEM switch into the fender mounting hole and secure it. If your model uses a weather protection sealing rubber boot, ensure it is installed correctly over the button to prevent future debris ingress.
Reconnect Wiring
Plug the electrical connector back into the new switch, ensuring the weather seal on the plug is intact.
Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn on the tractor and test the external PTO engagement and disengagement to ensure the new switch operates correctly.
Clear Codes
Use the dash control center or a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive T6143 fault code from the TRANS1 module.
