T6155

Massey Ferguson T6155 – PTO Control Unit: Malfunction of the neutral switch on the PTO control unit

Issue description

The system logs this code when the PTO neutral switch on the console registers as being pressed down for over 30 seconds. This indicates either a mechanical error (the switch is physically stuck, jammed, or binding) or an electrical error (the switch is internally shorted, or there is a short-to-ground/power in the wiring circuit).

Applies to these machines

  • Massey Ferguson 8600 Series
  • MF 8690
  • Massey Ferguson 6S Series
  • Dyna 4 / Dyna 6 transmission models
  • Models utilizing the X145 PTO/linkage console

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the PTO neutral switch on the X145 PTO/linkage console for dirt, debris, or sticky residue that might be physically holding the button down.

  2. Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test for continuity. If the switch shows a closed circuit without being pressed, it has failed internally and must be replaced.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness leading from the X145 console to the PTO control unit for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could cause a short circuit.

  4. Check the X145 console connectors for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins that could bridge the signal circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Access the Console

Locate the X145 PTO/linkage console in the cab. Carefully remove the retaining screws or pry up the plastic trim clips to lift the console panel.

  3. Disconnect the Switch

Locate the back of the PTO neutral switch. Depress the locking tab on the electrical pigtail and disconnect the wiring harness.

  4. Remove the Faulty Switch

Squeeze the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body (or remove the retaining nut, depending on the exact model year) and push the switch out through the top of the console panel.

  5. Install the New Part

Snap the new PTO neutral switch into the console panel until it clicks securely into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back into the switch. Reinstall the console trim panel and secure all screws.

  7. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use the instrument panel control unit (or a dealer diagnostic tool) to clear the T6155 fault code. Test the PTO engagement to ensure the code does not return.
