Massey Ferguson T6160 – Transmission Control Module (TCM) (module X18) or PTO/Linkage Console (module X145): Difference of at least 12% between the PTO output shaft speed and the PTO clutch speed

   Inspect wiring harnesses and connectors for the PTO clutch speed sensor (X15) and the PTO shaft speed sensor (X16) for damage, corrosion, or loose pins

   Verify that the X15 and X16 sensors are receiving the correct supply voltage from the TCM

   Check the electrical connections to the X3 (540 rpm) and X4 (1000 rpm) speed solenoid valves, ensuring they are not locked in a deactivated position or mechanically seized

   If sensors and solenoids are functioning correctly, evaluate the PTO clutch pack for mechanical slippage

   Secure the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Access the PTO Housing

   Locate the X15 and X16 speed sensors and the X3/X4 solenoid valves on the rear PTO housing/transmission block.

   Service the Solenoids

   Remove the X3 and X4 solenoid valves. Clean them and bench-test their actuation. If a valve is seized or fails to actuate smoothly, replace it.

   Replace Faulty Sensors

   If diagnostic testing points to a failed X15 or X16 sensor, unthread the faulty magnetic sensor from the housing. Clean the mounting port to ensure no debris falls into the housing.

   Install New Sensor

   Thread the new sensor into place. Ensure the correct air gap is maintained relative to the internal tone wheel so the magnetic pickup can accurately read the RPMs.

   Address Mechanical Faults

   If the electrical components are sound, the PTO clutch pack must be disassembled to replace worn clutch discs causing the 12%+ slippage.

   Clear and Test

   Reconnect all harnesses, clear the T6160 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and run the PTO under load at both 540 and 1000 rpm to verify the repair.
