Check the cause
Inspect the PTO ON/OFF switch on the console for physical damage, sticking buttons, or debris preventing full engagement.
Inspect the wiring harness connecting the PTO switch (X128) to the PTO/linkage console (X145) for chafed wires, broken connections, or corrosion at the connector pins.
Use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity, verifying that the contacts (e.g., Contacts 1-2) properly open and close when actuated.
Check the tractor's fuse box for any blown fuses related to the PTO control circuit or dashboard electronics.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Access the Console
Carefully remove the trim or retaining screws on the right-hand PTO/linkage control console to access the underside of the switch panel.
Disconnect the Switch
Locate the faulty rear PTO ON/OFF switch. Depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull it free from the switch.
Remove the Switch
Squeeze the retaining clips on the sides of the switch body (or remove the retaining nut, depending on the exact switch style) and push the switch up and out of the console panel.
Install the New Part
Snap the new OEM PTO switch into the console until it clicks securely into place.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical wiring harness into the new switch, ensuring the connector locks.
Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and verify that the T61A1 code has cleared from the Instrument Panel Control Unit. Start the tractor and test the PTO engagement to ensure proper operation.
