Massey Ferguson U 520239 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Pump module heater power stage error / DEF dosing valve after cooler voltage

Electrical fault in the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) / AdBlue heating system.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the DEF pump module and the DEF dosing valve. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could cause a short to ground or battery.

   Disconnect the electrical plugs at the DEF pump and dosing valve. Check for DEF fluid ingress (which is highly corrosive and causes shorts) or corroded pins.

   Check the main electrical supply, specifically the DEF Pump Heater Relay and DEF Hose Line Heater Relays (e.g., CPS 141, CPS 146), as well as the associated fuses in the terminal block.

   Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the heater element pins on the pump module/dosing valve. An infinite reading confirms an 'Open load' (FMI 5), meaning the internal heater is burnt out. Zero resistance indicates an internal short.

   If available, use a diagnostic tool (like AGCO EDT or JPRO) to manually command the 'DEF Heater Test' or 'DEF System Heater Test' to monitor voltage drop and verify if the module is sending power.

   Prepare machine

   Turn off the tractor, disconnect the battery, and allow the exhaust/SCR system to cool completely.

   Clean the area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the DEF pump module (near the DEF tank) or the dosing valve (on the exhaust aftertreatment pipe). Treat the connections like a fuel system to prevent dirt ingress.

   Disconnect fluid lines

   Disconnect the DEF supply and return lines. Have a catch pan ready, and immediately wash away any spilled DEF with warm water, as it is highly corrosive to metal.

   Remove faulty component

   Unplug the electrical connector and unbolt the faulty DEF pump module or dosing valve from its mounting bracket.

   Install new component

   Mount the replacement unit. Reconnect the fluid lines, ensuring that the O-rings are seated correctly to prevent air ingress or leaks.

   Reconnect electricals

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery.

7. 7

   Clear codes and test

   Connect a diagnostic scanner to clear the U 520239 fault code. Run a 'DEF System Leak Test' and a 'DEF Doser Pump Test' to prime the system and verify that the heater circuit is operating within normal parameters.
