Issue description
A malfunction in the first electrohydraulic remote spool valve (Valve 1), typically caused by an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power) or a mechanical/hydraulic issue (such as a sticking spool, binding from contaminated fluid, or worn elastomeric seals). The system often disables the valve, resulting in intermittent or completely blocked hydraulic function.

Check the cause
Dashboard / System Check: Check the control unit dashboard to see if the valves have been electronically blocked by the system as a safety measure.
Electrical Circuit Inspection: Inspect the solenoid connector on Valve 1. Look for harness rub points, test the coil resistance, and verify ground integrity to rule out a simple short or open circuit.
Mechanical Position: Look at the position of the external linkage and ensure the valve is returning to the center (neutral) position. A sticky control lever indicates mechanical binding.
Visual Leak Check: Inspect the valve stack for external puddles of hydraulic fluid, which indicates failed elastomeric seals.
Repair steps
Preparation
Clean the front of the valve and spool area thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Ensure the control handle is in the 'Neutral' position.
Disconnect Linkage
Remove the linkage or lever from the spool.
Remove End Cap
Remove the snap ring and the valve spool end cap.
Extract the Spool
Unscrew the large pipe/fittings from the rear of the valve. Once loosened, pull the pipe and valve spool out the back of the valve body.
Disassemble Centering Mechanism
Carefully unscrew the slotted plug from the rear end (note: it is spring-loaded). Remove the centering spring, spring retainers, and use a small magnet to draw out the detent balls and ball cup.
Inspect for Damage
Inspect the spool and the valve body bore. If the castings are cracked, or if the bores are deeply scored with clearances exceeding 0.001 inches, the valve cannot be rebuilt and must be replaced.
Replace Seals
If the bore is in good condition, replace all elastomeric seals and O-rings using a spool valve rebuild kit.
Reassembly
Reassemble the detent balls, centering spring, and spool plug. Slide the spool back into the valve body, reattach the rear pipes, and reconnect the linkage.
Clear Codes
Delete the V123 error code from the control unit dashboard and electronically unlock the valves to restore function.
