V215

Massey Ferguson V215 – Hydraulic Valve Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue

Issue description

This code indicates a malfunction in the second external remote hydraulic spool valve circuit. The underlying condition is typically an electrical fault (such as an open circuit or short in the spool position sensor wiring) or a mechanical issue where the valve spool is sticking and failing to reach the commanded position.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition, and ensure the hydraulic/transmission filter is not blocked.

  2. Inspect the rear remote valve stack (specifically Valve 2) for external leaks, damaged quick couplers, or physical damage to the valve housing.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness going to the spool position sensor on Valve 2 for rubbed wires, corrosion inside the connector, or bent pins.

  4. Use a diagnostic tool to read live data from the spool position sensor while commanding the valve to move, checking for erratic or static values.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic remote levers/buttons to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the external hydraulic valve stack at the rear of the tractor to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Disconnect Electrical Connections

Unplug the wiring harness from the Valve 2 spool position sensor and the solenoid actuator.

  4. Remove the Valve/Sensor

If only the sensor is faulty: Unbolt the position sensor cap from the end of the spool valve and replace it with a new unit. If the valve is sticking internally: Disconnect the hydraulic lines to Valve 2. Unbolt the tie-rods holding the valve stack together and carefully remove the Valve 2 slice.

  5. Reassembly

Install the new spool valve or sensor. If replacing the valve slice, ensure all O-rings between the valve sections are replaced and lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid. Torque the stack tie-rods to OEM specifications.

  6. Calibration

Once a new electronic spool valve or sensor is installed, you must use a diagnostic tool to calibrate it. The system needs to "learn" the neutral, fully open, and fully closed positions of the new valve.

  7. Final Testing

Top up the hydraulic fluid, start the tractor, check for leaks, and test the remote valve with an implement to ensure full pressure and flow.

Parts you might need

(5)
  • Electronic Hydraulic Spool Valve Assembly (Valve 2)

Generic OEM replacement for the electronic remote slice. (Many of these era tractors utilize Bosch Rexroth SB23 series electronic valves).

  • Spool Position Sensor

Often available separately if the valve itself is mechanically sound.

  • Hydraulic Valve O-Ring Kit

Required for sealing between the valve slices if the stack is separated.

  • Hydraulic Filter

Generic OEM replacement (e.g., AGCO Parts).

  • Hydraulic Fluid

Premium UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil).
