Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition (look for dark, burnt, or milky appearance indicating water contamination)

  2. Inspect the hydraulic filter for blockages that could restrict flow and force the system to work harder

  3. Test system pressure with a hydraulic gauge to ensure it is within the 2200 to 3600 psi range

  4. Inspect the external hydraulic valve, quick couplers, and fittings for external leaks or seepage

  5. Ensure the selector valve separating internal and external hydraulics is positioned correctly

Repair steps

  1. Fluid and Filter Service

If the hydraulic fluid is degraded or contaminated, drain the system, flush it, and replace the fluid and hydraulic filter.

  2. Unsticking the Valve (Manual Override)

If the valve is physically stuck, you can sometimes release it by manually moving the control valve lever back and forth. Alternatively, repeatedly picking up and dropping the lift arms with the control levers in the down position can sometimes unstick the valve.

  3. Valve Removal and Cleaning

If the manual override fails, remove the external hydraulic valve assembly. Clean the valve body and inspect the spool and seals for scoring or damage.

  4. Valve Replacement

If the valve is electronically failed or mechanically scored, it must be replaced.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • External Hydraulic Valve 2 / Auxiliary Remote Spool Valve

Some MF models utilize a Bosch Rexroth SB23 auxiliary valve

  • Hydraulic Fluid

    OEM-spec UTTO, such as 10W40

  • Hydraulic Filter

It is highly recommended to use original OEM filters, as low-quality aftermarket substitutes increase the risk of contamination entry by 35%

  • Hydraulic Pump

Required only if pressure testing reveals the pump cannot maintain rated flow
