Massey Ferguson V225 – Mid Mount Valve Module / Hydraulic Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 2 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction in the electronic control or feedback loop of the second external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The system logs this when there is a connection problem, a loss of communication, or an out-of-range reading from the Spool Position Sensor Value. The tractor's computer is unable to verify that the hydraulic valve spool has moved to the commanded position.

Check the cause
Connect a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic interface to verify if V225 is active or stored, and check for related spool position sensor codes (e.g., M17, M18, M19, M20, M21).
Locate External Hydraulic Valve 2 on the rear or mid-mount valve block and inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector for moisture, corrosion, or damaged pins.
Perform a swap test by temporarily swapping the electrical connector from Valve 1 to Valve 2. If the fault code changes to Valve 1, the issue is with the valve's internal position sensor or solenoid. If the code remains V225, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the Mid Mount Valve Module.
Use a multimeter to check for continuity and proper voltage between the Valve 2 connector and the Mid Mount Valve Module.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all hydraulic implements to relieve system pressure, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.
Access the Valve Block
Clean the area around the external hydraulic valve block thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect Electronics
Unplug the electrical harness from the External Hydraulic Valve 2 actuator/sensor head.
Remove the Faulty Component
Depending on the exact valve configuration, you may be able to unbolt just the electronic control head/position sensor from the spool, or you may need to remove the entire Valve 2 spool section from the hydraulic stack. Remove the retaining tie-bolts carefully.
Install the Replacement
Install the new spool valve section or electronic actuator. Ensure all O-rings are lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid and properly seated between the valve slices.
Reassembly
Torque the valve block tie-bolts to the OEM specification. Reconnect the electrical harness.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery. Use the Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the V225 fault code and run the hydraulic valve calibration routine so the ECU can learn the new spool position sensor's end-stops.
