V412

Massey Ferguson V412 – Hydraulic Control Unit / Implement ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

Issue description

The fault code indicates a connection problem or circuit failure on the 4th external hydraulic spool valve (remote valve). The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected that the signal to or from the Valve 4 actuator/solenoid is out of range, typically caused by an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power within the solenoid circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the electrical connector at the #4 remote valve solenoid at the rear of the tractor for dirt, corrosion, or bent pins.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve block for rub points, chafing, or breaks.

  3. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the #4 valve solenoid coil to confirm ground integrity and check for an open or shorted coil.

  4. Perform a swap test: Swap the solenoid coil from Valve #4 with Valve #3. If the fault code changes to a Valve 3 issue, the solenoid is the culprit. If the code remains on Valve 4, the issue is in the wiring harness or the ECU.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and engage the battery master switch to cut electrical power.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the rear external hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the Valve 4 solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Remove the retaining nut holding the solenoid coil to the valve cartridge. Slide the faulty coil off the stem.

  5. Replace the Cartridge

If the mechanical spool cartridge is also faulty or leaking, unthread it from the valve block (have a catch pan ready for hydraulic fluid loss) and install the new cartridge.

  6. Install New Parts

Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

  7. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid.

  8. Clear Codes

Turn the battery master switch back on, start the tractor, and use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the DTCs. Test the #4 remote valve for proper operation.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • External Hydraulic Valve Solenoid Coil

Fitment: Specific to the electronic spool valve block on 5600/7600/7700 series.

  • Spool Valve Cartridge

Fitment: Replaces the mechanical valve stem if the valve is sticking.

  • Hydraulic Valve Connector Repair Kit

Fitment: Used if the diagnostic checks reveal a broken wire or corroded connector at the harness.
