Massey Ferguson V421 – Hydraulic/Chassis Control Unit (ECU): External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue

A malfunction in the tractor's auxiliary remote hydraulic system (External Hydraulic Valve 4). The code triggers when the system detects a connection problem, a pressure drop, an internal seal leak, or an electronic failure preventing the valve from actuating properly.

   Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition; look for dark, burnt, or milky fluid indicating contamination, and check for a blocked filter

   Inspect the rear remote valve block for external leaks, which are common on the Bosch SB23 valves

   Check the wiring harness and connectors at the valve solenoid for corrosion or breaks

   Use a hydraulic gauge to test system pressure to rule out a failing main hydraulic pump

   Preparation

   Relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system. Clean the rear remote valve block thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical harnesses from the solenoids on Valve 4. Disconnect the hydraulic lines and unbolt the specific distributor section from the valve stack.

   Resealing

   Instead of replacing the whole unit, use a specialized spool valve replacement/reseal kit (such as the K-Line AT20010 tool) to extract the old seals and install new ones inside the Bosch SB23 remote valve.

   Reassembly

   Bolt the valve section back into the stack, reconnect the hydraulic lines, and plug in the solenoids.

   Fluid Maintenance

   Change the hydraulic filter and top up the system with fresh UTTO hydraulic fluid.

   Start the tractor, clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool, and test the remote valve with an implement to ensure proper pressure and no leaks.
