Massey Ferguson V424 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) or Tractor Control Unit (Autotronic / DCC3): External Hydraulic Valve 4 Issue
Issue description
This fault indicates an electrical or operational issue with the External Hydraulic Valve 4 (also known as Remote Spool Valve 4 or Solenoid Valve 4). The system has detected a signal that is out of range, which typically means an open circuit, short circuit, or current level / decay error.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the remote valve block at the rear of the tractor above the rear axle to identify Valve 4.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to Solenoid Valve 4 for rub points, melted insulation, or pinch damage.
Unplug the solenoid connector and check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.
Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the Valve 4 solenoid coil and compare it to a known good valve (e.g., Valve 3) to check for an internal short or open circuit.
Verify that the ground circuit for the valve block is clean and tight.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/joystick to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the rear remote valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical connector from External Hydraulic Valve 4.
Remove the Solenoid/Valve
Depending on the exact failure (just the coil vs. the whole cartridge), remove the retaining nut holding the solenoid coil, or unbolt the specific spool valve section from the hydraulic block.
Install New Component
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and torque the retaining nut to OEM spec, or bolt the new valve section into the stack using new O-rings.
Reconnect and Clear Codes
Plug the electrical connector back in. Turn the key on and use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the inactive DTCs.
Test Operation
Start the tractor, allow the hydraulic fluid to reach operating temperature, and actuate Valve 4 to ensure proper flow and no leaks.
Parts you might need
(2)External Hydraulic Valve Solenoid / Remote Valve Spool Solenoid (Valve 4)
