Yale 1079-31 – Vehicle System Manager (VSM) or Engine Control Module (ECM) / Main Controller: 5VE1 & 5VE2 Simultaneously OORH
Issue description
The 5-Volt reference supply circuits ('E1' and 'E2') that power the machine's sensors are receiving higher voltage than expected. This indicates that the 5-Volt E1 supply, E2 supply, or both are shorted to the system supply source (battery voltage), or a functional failure has occurred within the controller.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Yale and Hyster Forklifts
- Hyster and Yale forklifts manufactured from 2005 and newer
- Yale Veracitor VX series (GC-VX, GLC-VX, GLP-VX, GDP-VX)
- Hyster Fortis FT series (H40FT, S50FT)
Check the cause
Inspect the electronic throttle body and linkage for dirt, corrosion, or mechanical binding.
Verify that the 5VE1 and 5VE2 sensors (Throttle Position Sensors) are properly aligned and operating correctly.
Visually inspect the main wiring harness and connectors for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
Use a multimeter to check for short circuits between the 5V sensor signal wires and the battery voltage/system supply.
Test the controller's input circuitry if the wiring harness and sensors test normal.
Repair steps
Clean and Lubricate
If the throttle assembly is physically stuck or binding, clean the throttle body and lubricate the mechanical linkage.
Repair Wiring
If your multimeter testing reveals an open circuit or a short to the battery voltage on the 5V reference wires, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.
Replace Sensors
If the wiring is intact but the sensors are internally shorted or misaligned beyond adjustment, replace the Throttle Position Sensor.
Replace the Controller
If all hardware, sensors, and wiring are confirmed to be in good working order, the controller module has suffered a functional failure and must be replaced. Note: Replacement VSMs are shipped un-programmed and must be flashed using dedicated PC software to match the truck's specific serial number.
Clear Codes
After repairs are made, reset the error codes and monitor the sensor data live to verify the fix.
