Yale 168-0 – Controller / ECU: System Battery Voltage OORH
Issue description
System battery voltage being detected is higher than the acceptable maximum threshold (often >16 volts on standard systems).
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Yale and Hyster Forklifts
- Yale ERP040VT
- Yale GLC050
- Yale GC135VX
- Yale ERP20VT
- Yale ERC065RGN36TE082
Check the cause
Test the static battery voltage with a multimeter to check for internal battery faults or failures.
Run the forklift and measure the voltage output at the battery terminals to test the alternator (look for spikes >16V indicating a failed voltage regulator).
If battery and alternator output correct voltages, inspect the controller for a functional failure in receiving or interpreting voltage.
Repair steps
Verify Voltage
Use a digital multimeter to check the system voltage while the machine is off and while it is running.
Address Alternator Overcharging
If the running voltage is excessively high, remove and replace the alternator, as it is overcharging the system.
Address Battery Faults
If the alternator is fine but the battery fails a load test or shows an internal short causing voltage irregularities, replace the starter battery.
Replace/Reprogram Controller
If both the battery and alternator test within normal OEM specifications, the fault lies in the controller's circuitry. Replace the main ECU/Controller and flash/program it to the truck.
Clear Codes
After replacing the faulty component, cycle the ignition and clear the fault codes from the dash display to verify the repair.
