Yale 521-4 – Controller / VSM (Vehicle System Manager): Brake Pedal Position Sensor OORL (Out Of Range Low)
Issue description
The controller is detecting that the voltage signal from the Brake Pedal Position Sensor has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Yale and Hyster Forklifts
- Yale Veracitor VX series
- Hyster Fortis FT series
- J1.5-2.0XNT
- ERP030-040VT
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness connecting the Brake Pedal Position Sensor to the VSM for any obvious physical damage, chafing, or disconnected pins
Use a multimeter to verify continuity on the sensor supply circuit and the sensor signal circuit to check for open circuits
Test the sensor signal wire to ensure it is not shorted to the sensor ground wire or the forklift's frame ground
Verify that the controller is sending the correct supply voltage to the sensor and is capable of reading a return signal
Repair steps
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks reveal an open circuit or a short to ground in the harness, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness. Clear the code and test the pedal.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring harness and supply voltage are intact but the fault persists, the Brake Pedal Position Sensor has failed internally. Remove the mounting hardware on the brake pedal bracket, disconnect the sensor pigtail, and install a replacement sensor.
Replace the Controller
If the sensor is replaced, the wiring is confirmed good, but the code remains active, the issue is a functional failure within the VSM/Controller. The controller will need to be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.
